Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning (including tanning beds) for at least 4 weeks before your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher if you need to be outdoors.
Shave the treatment area 24-48 hours before your appointment. This ensures the laser targets the hair follicles effectively without burning the hair above the skin’s surface.
Refrain from waxing, plucking, threading, or using depilatory creams for at least 4-6 weeks prior to the treatment. These methods remove the hair root, which is necessary for the laser to work.
Avoid exfoliating treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and harsh scrubs for at least 2 weeks before your treatment. These procedures can make your skin more sensitive and increase the risk of irritation and complications.
Stop using products that contain retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other exfoliating agents for at least 48 hours before your session.
Inform your practitioner about any medications or supplements you are taking. Some medications, such as antibiotics or drugs that cause photosensitivity, can increase the risk of side effects.
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that can thin the blood for at least a week before your treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.
Ensure the area to be treated is clean and free of lotions, creams, deodorants, makeup, or any other products on the day of the treatment
Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment to avoid irritation on the treated area post-procedure.
Apply cool compresses or aloe vera gel to soothe the treated area and reduce any redness or swelling.
Continue to avoid direct sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher on the treated areas for at least a few weeks post-treatment to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Avoid hot baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours post-treatment to reduce irritation.
Continue avoiding waxing or plucking the treated area between sessions, as this can interfere with the hair removal process.
Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers. Avoid harsh products like retinoids and glycolic acids for a few days after treatment.
Multiple Sessions: Laser hair removal usually requires multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
Report Side Effects: Notify your practitioner if you experience any unusual side effects, such as prolonged redness, blistering, or pigmentation changes.
By adhering to these pre- and post-treatment guidelines, you can help ensure a more effective and comfortable laser hair removal experience.
